Chair Yoga Transforms Lives in Lytham
A chair yoga group in Lytham is transforming the lives of people living with neurological conditions, offering accessible movement, connection and support within the local community.
Recently featured by ITV News Granada, the group provides tailored yoga sessions for individuals with conditions such as Parkinson’s and Multiple Sclerosis. Participants have described the classes as a “godsend,” helping to improve mobility, confidence and overall wellbeing in a safe and supportive environment.
The initiative forms part of a wider collaboration between the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) and Parkinson’s UK, which aims to make yoga more accessible to people with long-term health conditions. By combining specialist training with community-based delivery, the partnership is helping more individuals to benefit from adapted yoga practices designed around their needs.
While the ITV feature highlights the powerful impact of the Lytham group run by BWY Teacher, Deborah Hopkinson, it also reflects the growing role of BWY-trained teachers and programmes in supporting health-focused yoga across the UK. Through partnerships like this, BWY continues to expand access to inclusive, evidence-informed yoga for those who may otherwise face barriers to participation.
