The British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) Launches Climate Action Programme
BWY, the National Governing Body for yoga in England and Wales, has launched a climate action and sustainability programme to support a healthier future for communities and the planet. BWY has joined Climate Action for Associations (CAFA), a global network of more than 370 membership organisations advancing sustainability across diverse sectors.
The announcement follows Climate Action Tracker’s latest analysis, which projects that current global policies will result in temperatures rising by 2.6°C above pre-industrial levels. These changes will increasingly affect health, wellbeing and the communities we serve.
BWY is developing a formal sustainability and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) policy, and producing practical resources for members covering sustainable teaching practices, eco-friendly studio operations and carbon-reduction strategies. The programme will be governed by CAFA’s Best Practice Framework, embedding sustainability across BWY’s strategy, operations, member services and advocacy.
The initiative will help members explore more sustainable ways of teaching, running classes and managing studios, while supporting wider environmental action across the yoga sector.
Peter Tyldesley, CEO of BWY, said: “Environmental sustainability is no longer optional – it’s a shared responsibility and a strategic priority. As a yoga community deeply connected to nature and wellbeing, we have both the motivation and the opportunity to lead positive change. By joining CAFA, we’re taking proactive steps to reduce emissions, shape policy, guide best practice and support our members in navigating this transition.”
Further resources, guidance and opportunities for member involvement will be shared over the coming months.
